More Tucson ... saguaro cactus . These cactus

are indigenous to this part of arizona . They

really are spectacular . I am always in totally

awe of these grand cactus . All I can say is they

take my breath away .

my Iphone . I am now experimenting with different

apps so it does not become to boring . I am only 29

days into this and I do not know how I will go 366 days .

Indigo Weekend

I spent the weekend with Glennis Dolce ( Shibori Girl ) learning

about indigo dyeing and shibori . It was a wonderful class and if

you ever have a chance to take a class with her , do it ! she is a

wealth of knowledge and very generous . I learned just enough

to know I wanted to take her online class .

The class was held at the Japanese American Museum

in Little Tokyo . So it was fun to walk around and take

some photos.

Seems to early for spring .

A crazy bike store ...it was full of people .

A lunch trailer , too bad I had already eaten .

I met some friends for dinner on 5th and main.

Nickle Dinner was a cool place and good food .

Breakfast seemed like it would be extra good .

It was a great weekend . I can't wait to get my

indigo pot going . My head is filled with all kinds of ideas .

More Journal to Fabric Work

I worked on the idea of the moon first .
I then worked on the fabric . I am happy
how this worked out . I like this idea of recording a idea and then translating it
to fabric . Since it seems ideas can
disappear out of my brain pretty easily
these days , I like this idea of making myself work them out on paper . Since this is a on going process I am able to go back and look at old ideas that i forgot about . I have even added photos to this journal .

Fabric Patterns

This is the pattern that I came up with from

my watercolor in my journal . I used natural

linen , indigo blue , green linen & walnut dyed linen .

I dyed this fabric with walnut hulls .

is dyed with coreopsis . the background

is a piece of indigo fabric .

I am starting to get a flow going for my

Magic cloth . It really is a slow process .

2012 and Patterns

Yesterday we drove over the hill to Stinson beach .

I made dan stop the car for a photo shoot . When

I looked through the lens I realize i was looking at a

pattern . The waves were making a pattern . I was thinking

about translating this to cloth . Then I thought about translating

this to a project for 2012 . So I think for 2012 it is going to

be patterns in photo's translated to my art . This can be fun .

Today I am going to Golden Gate park and see what patterns I

can shoot with my camera . I am also going to do some leaf gathering

for making patterns on cloth . It has been a great week in sf .

Wish it could last forever .

live here so it makes it extra special . I am

Another year gone by and time to reflect . One thing

about having a december birthday is that its the end

of the year for everyone . So i have lots of reminders

that another year has gone by . No regrets here .

I have had a wonderful year . The highlight was a trip

to Venice & Florence with Devon . I hope it is not my

last . The new techniques I have learned this year.

Cloth , metal journal making , painting on plaster .

I am a firm believer that you need to challenge yourself

and learn something new every year . I believe this is

what keeps your mind alive . The journey this year has

been fun . The great part is everything I learned is a keeper.

I look forward to a new year to challenging myself .

Dia los Muertos

This weekend was our annual " Dia los Muertos ".

This year was a little different because we started

2 months ago building the boxes with plaster . It

has been a lot of fun to do this as a group .

This is my sister sandy's dog shadow and her

bird bj . She lost both of them this year .

This is millie . She has been a member of our art

weekends since we started over 10 years ago .

She was our mascot and we lost her this year .

She is missed by all of us but mostly by her

mama Stephanie .

This is Sandy's shrine for shadow .

Last but not least , Sandy's shrine

for Bj .

This weekend was one of best weekends we have

had for making altars . we do this to honor those of who we have lost.

Something New

I finally finshed a plaster nicho . I took a online

class from Judy Wise & Stephanie Lee this summer

and have been working on this for a while . The painting

is done on paper and glued in the box . I have 3 more

in the making for our " Dia los Muertos " weekend . I am

going to spend this weekend finishing the plaster part

of the nicho . It is a good thing it is still hot here so

they ought to dry quickly . I have really enjoyed this

process . I highly recommend you buy the video for this class

if you are interested in plaster . it covers all aspects of

the process .

A Wonderful Evening

Last night I had dinner in the Indian canyons . Every

year Our local tribe puts on a beautiful dinner to benefit

their museum. Dinner is held in the canyon under the

stars and moon. It makes for a breath taking

experience . It was extra special because the entertainment

for this event was one of my favorite performers.

This is a new sun in my new journal . I am calling

this new journal my " magic journey " . This is

my new project in fabric . I find it is easier for

me to put my ideas on paper . I can then pick and

choose what i do with the fabric.

This is the results of the drawing . I have not

decided if I am going to add a face or not .

Right now I am just making pieces of the

puzzle . It actually feels good to not know where

I am going to end up . Doing this project is so

" not me " . It will be interesting to see it all

Lots of energy going on in this photo and

today . We had such a wonderful visit to

my friend michael's last weekend . I took

lots of inspirational photos while we were

there. The pogo printer has been getting

a good workout. I have a new journal that I

made myself . I am using my zechhi watercolors

and pogo prints. I will add words later .

I have started a new class with Jude

I have been working on this sun for a while . It is going

going to be apart of a larger piece . Since taking these

slow cloth classes with Jude Hill (now for a year ) my

perceptive has change . I do not feel pressured to

finish something in a imaginary time frame. I am

trying to take my time and enjoy myself . I guess that

is why Jude calls it slow cloth .

I am looking forward to a long weekend . No plans

yet ... but who knows anything is possible .

Happy Father's Day !

My Dad in his photo lab.

He became my best friend when I

was 30. We discovered we were a lot

alike . We traveled the world together.

I miss him and love the things I learned

from him. He gave me my first camera when

I was 6 . Today I found the roll of negatives

of the first film I ever shot . It make me smile

that he keeped this. I can remember developing

this film with him and watching the magic of the

image appear on the paper. this was the beginning

of my great love of photography.

Not much going on here but a lot of unfinished projects.

I need to complete something . I have my fingers in so

many pies right now . Today I am going to try to finish

some more "Alala " paintings . I might be able to get some

beads made too... lets hope . It is still under a 100 here .

So it is not too hot in front of that kiln . I look forward

to the summer because it traps me inside and I am able

to get some projects done . This is so opposite of most of

my friends that live in cooler parts of the country .

join one of those renaissance faires and set up

my future.

Art Classes in Santa Monica

First class on saturday was with Teesha Moore .

It was a 3 dimensional painting project. I truly

enjoyed this way more than I thought I would.

Teesha is an awesome teacher .

Sunday was a journal making class from

Tracy Moore . We have been trying to

take a class from Tracy since the first

time we saw his journals. This was one

intense class . Tracy is a really patient

teacher . I had a really great time and

I am ready to try this on my own . I

spent yesterday checking out my supply

catalogs . I think I have it covered .

If you ever get a chance to take a

class from Teesha & Tracy , do it .

They are truly generous people .

We took a drive to Joshua tree on sunday night

to check out the full moon . I found these growing

on a rock .

The sun cast a perfect color on these wonderful rocks.

I love the sunset across the valley and the

joshua trees in the fore ground.

The full moon when you turned around

from the sunset set . It was very magical.

And 2 great dogs to share it with ....

Spring in Pasadena

I spent the last 2 weekends going to flea markets .

I have been on a mission to prepare for a class I

am taking in the end of april . I need old metal hinges

and knobs , brass chain , stamped metal ... but while

i am there i might as well check out old lace and fabric.

In fact I saw lots of things i could buy . I had to tell myself

Walk away , walk away , walk away ......

This was a cool booth in alameda . When did flea

market booths become so stylized ? Back in the 70's

I used to have a booth at the marin county flea market .

That meant arriving at 5 am to get the same spot every

sunday . It was not very stylish , more like set up a table

and get your stuff out as fast as you could. It always

amazed me how many people were there waiting for

us to put our stuff out .

I loved this trim . I would have put this on the

bottom of my pants ! Does anyone remember the

ribbon store in sausalito ? I spent many a day in that

store . I was so sorry when it burned down . They

opened a new store but it was never the same.

I could not help my self ! and to find 2 of them .

I did not buy these but I enjoyed seeing them.

These were at the rose bowl flea market.

Both markets were a lot of fun .

It was a great weekend .

It really does feel like spring

in california .

Spring in San Francisco

I had a great weekend in sf with Devon & Peter.

We had good food and lots of fun. Saturday

we drove to mill valley and back to the city .

We went to the park and enjoyed the flowers

blooming . Then went to Fort Miley for the view.

The cherry blossoms were wonderful.

This made the weekend extra special.

The Japanese tea gardens . We did not go in because

it was late in the day . I use to love to go here when I

was in college . Sometimes I would go by myself between

classes . I lived in mill valley and went to school in SF .

I would go to Golden Gate park and hang out while

I waited for my next class.

On sunday we went to the alameda flea market .

It was awesome . I saw some great work tables

that I would love to have . Next time when I have

dan and his car with me.

I have started to embellish one of my hearts .

I really like how this is coming along . I have not

decided if I want to put these all together in

one large piece or make them into small individual

pieces , like maybe a prayer flag. What is great

about this being a " slow " process is that i don't

have to make up my mind yet.

When so much is happening with

the elements I choose to hunker

down and work on some easy projects.

I find the universe always gets a little crazy

during these events . stay off the road is

The good news is , I am really enjoying myself.

I spent the weekend thinking about Japan . I

feel so sorry for all the displaced families .

Living in california we are aware of how we

could be next . I try not to live in fear by

being prepared . but in this case it seems

no one can be " that " prepared . This is

when I am thankful I am an artist and

can fill my time creating .

I have been working on my heart .

I finally got to photograph it in

the snow. We headed up to the

cabin this weekend for an art weekend.

We hit a snow storm on the way there ,

luckily we were close to our destination .

This is the way it looked when we arrived.

This was the view looking out the window of the cabin .

there were a lot of birds sitting out the storm.

And one cat wishing he could get out there

and join them . fantastic weekend.

Today was sunny and bright . I love

the light and air after a storm.

Spent the weekend in San Francisco nursing

my daughter devon . On sunday she was feeling

better and we went out to the great highway

and watched this sunset. This is when she knew

she was feeling better. It was a different kind

of visit but it turned out to be very relaxing .

Cooking and hanging out can be very

nurturing for the soul . Sometimes it is

just good for the heart to be of service.

Another journey for my heart.

I have been working on hearts this month.

It seems part of my journey this year .

Maybe it really needs to be a journey of

a lifetime.

Alala on a sleeping heart painting . This

painting is put in a pmc silver frame I made.

The painting is set with resin. I have been

having a lot of fun making these necklaces.

Spent 4 days in Tucson doing gem hunting. I had

a great time . Saturday night went to the opening

at Philabaum Glass Gallery . It was a wonderful

show and I purchased some great gifts. All in all

Tucson was great ,the number of people were down ,

but I enjoyed the elbow room at the different

shows. I bought a lot of new silver and stones

I can't wait to see what I do with them. I

need to get back on the torch and make beads

that go with those stones.

This was my 17th year going to Tucson . I am

never bored there . I highly recommend everyone

going their once in their lifetime . No words

can describe the amazing things you see at all of the

different shows . If gems and fossils are not your

thing , there is Saguaro National park.

Free Painting

I am celebrating 34 years of a wonderful

journey with my daughter devon . I will

put all the names in a hat that make a post

so i made nine of these paintings . eight

paintings are in the mail and this one was

85 degrees today . what happened to winter ?

I have been working away making beads . then its

on to my next journey with jude over at " spirit cloth" .

I have my fabric all set up ready to go . I can't wait.

But first things first .... finish my commission .... get my

books turned into my accountant and put the final brush

strokes on the paintings i am doing. it is all looking possible .

What a journey it has been this week already .

Journey of the Day

I am so ready for the next journey

but first i must clean up the studio

from the last 3 months of jewelry

making. No photos of that mess. I have

one table clean and 2 more to go . I would

also like to make beads today . I always have so

many things i want to do in one day .

I am sure i am not alone in that goal .

Journey is the word or vision

i have for 2011. it really is not

a new thing for me to do . journey

is my whole life . i want to

conscientiously be aware of all

the choices of journeys i take

this year. to incorporate and

infuse my art with my journeys.

i do believe that all is connected

and lately my early years of art

are becoming connected to my

present day art. this year has

been a real journey to my past.

i have opened doors that i thought

were closed for ever. so it seems

really appropriate to continue

letting the artistic past flow and

blend with my art of now.

I have been having a great time just

relaxing . I am having a hard time doing

anything . I guess that a is good thing to do

St. Francis church in Santa fe.

Santa fe town square.

I love this place . It just makes you

feel in the holiday spirit . In fact Santa fe

just makes me feel in one with all. I have been

visiting this town for 40 years and each time

it is a brand new experience , As an artist I feel

this place is a creative power point for me . So

after christmas I am headed here to re-new my

spirit and get ready for 2011.

Moon eclipse

Tomorrow on the Winter solstice is the moon eclipse.

Somewhere around 12:53 am it will be covering the moon.

The crazy weather we are having may make it impossible

to see , so i guess i will just have to feel it.

San Francisco weekend

We spent the weekend in San francisco and

had a great time . Saturday we went to the

de Young Museum . The show we saw was

the Post-Impressionist Masterpieces from

the Musee d Orsay. We went late in the day

and when we walked out this is what I saw.

Our very own painting. I use to wonder where

they got their inspiration from and it is times

like this that I know.

My favorite painting . As many times I have been

to the Musee de Orsay , each time I am wowed by

a different artist. Maybe it is my mood or my age,

who knows, but my favorite painting always changes.

The colors in this painting were amazing .... and the subject

did not bother me .... in fact the clouds are what I loved.

I highly recommend this show . There is a great selection

of artists and their paintings . It gives you a good perspective

of each artist's work. That has to be my favorite thing about

Musee d 'Orsay , lots of paintings by the same artist.

If you are in San francisco treat yourself for christmas .

I have so much to be thankful for but mostly my family & friends.

I hope everyone one is right where they want to be on

this day. I know holidays can be stressful. 30 years ago

I decided to spend this holiday with people I love instead

of who I suppose to . I highly recommend being with people

that are loving and supportive of you. This practice changed

how I view holidays . My wish for you is that you

have a wonderful and peaceful day . Life is too short.

I saw this heart in Venice . I thought it was extra wonderful .

I have had hearts on the creative brain . I spent the past

week making glass hearts . Some survived and some ended up

in our shrines last weekend . I think I am going to give it a

go this weekend again . Dan and I are headed out tonight

to see Leon Russell & Elton John . It has been 35 yrs since

we saw them play together . It ought to be a good time.

I hope everyone has a good creative weekend.

Dia de los Muertos

This is my most favorite weekend of the year.

My art group gets together to celebrate

" the day of the dead ". We worked on

our shrines and ate wonderful food.

This was my shrine this year.

This was sandys . We made more but my photo's

did not come out . If you look close you will see a heart

in the hand . I did make beads this week and we all recycled

the beads that didn't make the cut, which turned out to be hearts .

The hearts that did make the cut are now in necklaces .
